  • 1. The Singing Bridge built over the Myall River between Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest ‘sings’ when there is a strong south-west wind.

  • 2. The Jean Shaw Koala Reserve is located at the Northeast of the Singing Bridge. Perhaps the Koalas cross the bridge to visit their families for a picnic.

  • 3. Former Prime Minister John Howard and his family would come to Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest for holidays.

  • 4. Public transport to Tea Gardens is available daily.

  • 5. Opinion is divided on where Tea Gardens got its name from – either the unsuccessful attempt to grow tea on 500,000 acres by the Australian Agricultural Company in 1826, or, the concentration of tea-trees along the Myall River.

  • 6. Tea tree oil is commonly used to treat insect bites due to its antibacterial properties.

  • 7. You can enjoy a picnic and views over Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest from the Lions Park Lookout on Tea Gardens Road (Myall Way).

  • 8. The local Worimi people welcomed five shipwrecked convicts in 1790 who they believed were ancestors returning from the dead (explains their pale skin). They were the first Europeans to arrive in the area.
